Laura Tromben House

This is the remodeling of a house from the 1970’s in the traditional neighborhood of Jardín del Este, in Santiago. Designed by architect José Ramón Ugarte Aguirrezabal, his Japanese inspired style made him stand out in Chile in the 1960’s. The intervention preserves the surface and distribution of spaces of the original plan, but some walls were demolished and other minor structural elements were intervened to allow for more luminosity, fluidity and transparency in the interior spaces. A thorough renovation of the interior installations and finishes was carried out, following the same intervention criteria, with fine steel and cedar carpentry. The incorporation of kinetic patterns in contrast with large windows and flush doors seek to reinforce the original spirit of the house, reminiscent of Japanese architecture.
