The house is located in a neighborhood of Santiago at the Andes Mountains foothills, where weather is warm and dry during most of the year. Viewed from the street, the property presents a smooth slope ascending towards the mountains. The goal was to build a single-story building that would occupy much of the property. By means of three intersected wings on different levels, which adapt to the land’s inclination, three patios are formed defining the distribution of spaces according to their use and sunlight needs.
The central wing hosts the public areas, articulated on each end with the lower wing for services and the upper wing for bedrooms.
The upper wing, which is oriented towards a third, more private patio, contains the bedrooms, studies and a social area that opens out towards the pool on the highest part of the property. The lower wing, which is close to the street, houses the service areas and garage.
Each wing is structured with reinforced concrete walls and three roofs with laminated radiata pine beams. The lightweight construction system with large spans provided ample spaces and generous eaves to protect the interiors from the sun and also generate ventilation within the thickness of the roof, which lowers the interior temperature during the summer. On the exteriors, the structure was left exposed, combining solar control and ventilation solutions according to each orientation.
