Horse Stable

Replacing an existing structure in a family state in the Ñuble region, which functioned as a nursery for animals, the task was to rebuild a larger capacity version with four stables, two warehouses and one feeding trough. Due to the distance and the shortage of manpower, a mechanized construction system was proposed to be assembled on site by two carpenters in a short time. The system is composed by a series of prefabricated pieces in galvanized iron, modular elements in radiata pine wood and the reuse of demolition clay tiles.

Throughout a grid of 3 x 3 meters a rectangular floor plan of 6 x 18 meters is configured, defined by a structure of metal posts and crossbeams that support a roof with a wooden scissor truss and a gable roof. From this grid, an enclosed area of four modules is left for the warehouses and stables, and an open area under the roof for animal shelter and feeding trough. One of the warehouses was to have a special hatch on the side to allow the entry of straw bales from a vehicle. The entire structure is founded on concrete piles and is supported on a concrete foundation with slopes for water runoff. Except for the concrete base, all elements were designed to be installed by dry, non-welded assembly.
