Grupo Sud Office

Grupo Sud is the reconversion of an old perfume factory into an open work space for a holding of four companies dedicated to marketing, production, design and communication. The building is located in the consolidated Barrio Italia, the go-to neighborhood for arts and interior design stores in the district of Providencia.

The narrow lot – 20 x 75 meters – was composed of a sequence of warehouses built at different times with a series of additions and subdivisions over time. The project entailed the restoration of this sequence of spaces and its reorganization according to the needs of each company, mainly offices for a work force of about a hundred people.

The work seeked a contrast between the old – thickness, height, textures – and the new – light, transparent elements scaled to the needs of occupation.

Removing and reusing the elements of subdivision restored the communication between the different warehouses and resulted in more fluid and brighter spaces: the ideal environment for an integrated and team work approach.

A neutral color palette was used to maintain the tranquility, highlight the spaciousness and reflect the sun, which only enters through the roofs. The new partitions were made of glass, seeking to dilute boundaries and highlight the straight edges, against the imprecision of the old.

The new air conditioning and electrical control panels were highlighted in galvanized metal, moving forward in orderly fashion through the neutrality of the white background. Both the furniture and the lamps were designed by 57STUDIO following the same premise of identity and contrast over a recycled space as a backdrop.
